Today I decided to drive through the city of Joplin in Missouri on my way to visit family. On Sunday, May 22, 2011 a catastrophic EF5 multiple-vortex tornado devastated Joplin. I was not sure what I would see as it is almost a year later. As I started entering the highly affected area what I saw were areas of damaged houses, empty foundations, and new homes. I tried imaging what the devastation would have looked like that day in 2011 to those that survived. I could only think it would have been hard to believe what the eye was seeing. While I was there I reflected on the lives of those affected by disaster (survivors and those who didn't) and nature's immense power. Although I did not have a lot of time to spend in Joplin I was happy that I did. Here are some photographs I took while in Joplin.
